A battle fought in the stars...now comes to Earth.

When the evil Skeletor finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible, seizing Castle Grayskull and the surrounding city. The Sorceress is now Skeletor's prisoner and he begins to drain her life-force as he waits for the moon of Eternia to align with the Great Eye of the Universe which will bestow god-like power upon him. However, courageous warrior He-Man locates the locksmith inventor Gwildor, who created the Key and has another version of it. During a battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers Julie and Kevin. Now, both He-Man and Skeletor's forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon.

Note : Cannon Films were experts at snatching up IP rights and making cheap and cheerful adaptations throughout the 80s, and this is one of the more infamous, starring Swedish hunk of beef Dolph Lundgren, as well as Frank Langella, Meg Foster, Billy Barty, Courteney Cox, Robert Duncan McNeill, and James Tolkan. It starts out as something similar to a He-Man story, although with some significant changes to the characters, but quickly transports the main cast to Earth, where they can meet some teenagers and engage in fish out of water hijinx. It's pretty sloppy stuff, but it looks good (though a bit cheap), with some nice setpieces and neat optical effects. Pretty much made for riffing on, which you'll get quite a bit of in the RLM track, and a lot of in the iRiff track. And hey, at least Cannon didn't throw in any stereotypical evil Arab terrorists in this one.

Skeletor takes control of Castle Greyskull and captures the castle's sorceress, imprisoning her in a force field, as part of a plan to rule the universe. He-Man and friends rescue a locksmith named Gwildor, who's created a "cosmic key" that can open portals to anywhere through musical notes, which was stolen by Skeletor. However, Gwildor still has another key, and the group travels to the castle, but are overwhelmed by Skeletor's army and forced to flee through a portal that takes them to 80s California, where they promptly lose the key, which is found by a teenage musician and his orphan girlfriend. Thinking the key is a new Japanese synthesizer, they unwittingly send a signal back to Skeletor alerting him to their location, and he sends his underlings to retrieve the key. This leads to a series of chases and fights, where the teenagers team up with He-Man and the other Eternians, get in trouble with the cops, lose He-Man when he's captured, and are forced to go and get him back, leading to a showdown in Eternia, and a fateful attempt at a sequel hook.

This isn't the best transfer, a little grainy and fuzzy, but it looks fine all in all, with nice poppy color and contrast. The stereo track also sounds fine, the commentary track has some fun info, and of course the RLM and iRiff tracks are, respectively, informative and funny, and just funny.
