From Source to Tidal Reach Angela Rippon travels from the River Severn's source at Plynlimon down to Gloucester. En route, she discovers the birthplace of the industrial revolution and goes afloat in a coracle. E02 The Severn: 2. Tides and the West Bank Angela Rippon continues her journey down the River Severn E03 The Severn: 3. The Vale of Berkeley Angela Rippon joins the Severn Area Rescue Association in one of their training exercises, pays a visit to the Wildlife Trust at Slimbridge, tells the story of the murder of a king at Berkeley Castle and recalls the achievements of a local country doctor. E04 The Severn: 4. Crossing and Docking Angela Rippon explores the stretch of the Severn between Shepperdine and the mouth of the Avon, where people have crossed not only in ferries and over a bridge but even on their own two feet. She discusses industrial pollution of the estuary and sees how its bed is regularly charted so that ships can navigate in and out of port. E05 The Severn: 5. From Docks to Rocks Angela Rippon visits Bristol's historic harbour on the day of the maritime carnival and takes a pleasure cruise through the Avon Gorge and back to the Severn Estuary. E06 The Severn: 6. Resorts and Islands Angela Rippon visits Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare, ending her journey on the lonely island of Steep Holm. E07 The Kennet and Avon Canal: 1. The River Kennet Angela Rippon sets off from Reading to travel the length of the Kennet and Avon Canal. Along the way, she stops off at the Reading Abbey ruins, cycles to the listed Monkey Marsh Lock to view the restoration work taking place there and visits the Littlecote Roman villa. E08 The Kennet and Avon Canal: 2. Into Wiltshire Angela Rippon continues her journey along the Kennet and Avon canal, starting from Hungerford, on the border between Berkshire and Wiltshire, where she finds out how people have come to terms with the 1987 massacre. She continues west to Crofton, where she visits the historic pumping station, and then travels through the Vale of Pewsey before arriving at one of the wonders of the canal world, the Caen Hill Locks in Devizes. E09 The Kennet and Avon Canal: 3. Into the Avon Valley Angela Rippon arrives at Bradford-on-Avon, where, once a year, canal boats take part in a colourful parade. E10 The Kennet and Avon Canal: 4. The River Avon Angela Rippon completes her journey along the Kennet and Avon Canal, travelling through Bath and on to Bristol.
