Overview
In the 1970s, a group of idealistic Christians, led by firebrand preacher Noel Stanton, attempted to create a heaven on Earth in rural Northamptonshire. With testimony by former members, their children and community Elders, this compelling series traces the story of the Jesus Fellowship from its hippy origins to the high-profile launch of the Jesus Army in the late 1980s, followed by its shocking demise in the 2000s.

Description:
Inside the Cult of the Jesus Army (S01 complete) (1080p, soft English subtitles)
It began with a dream of heaven on earth in rural Britain - but the reality was abuse on a shocking scale. From hippy origins to controlling cult, the truth is only now emerging.
Deals with sexual abuse
E01 A look at the origins of the Jesus Fellowship. Founded in the 1970s, its early vision of communal living, shared finances and spiritual commitment changes over time, becoming more structured and controlling. Unexplained deaths begin to occur within the community, exorcisms are performed on members with 'unclean spirits', and children as young as two are disciplined with birch canes in a practice known as 'rodding'. Then, in 1987, leader Noel Stanton announces the launch of a ‘Jesus Army’. Members go onto the streets to evangelise, often amongst the homeless or people with addiction issues, and often bring new recruits back into community homes. One of these homes is in London, and it is here that a young girl becomes a witness to something that will change her life forever.
E02 As more and more people are drawn into the Jesus Army through its outreach schemes, the 'modesty culture' within the organisation takes a dark turn. Victims of sexual assault and abuse are made to feel as though they are to blame, while the response from the group's leadership is that the perpetrators' actions are sins 'under the blood of Jesus' and therefore forgiven. After leader Noel Stanton's death in 2006, Northamptonshire Police launch Operation Lifeboat to investigate the mounting allegations, while survivors of abuse begin to disclose their experiences.
