Description:

Renaissance – Opening Out: The Albums 1977-1979 (2025) Review: …featuring the albums ‘Novella’, ‘A Song for All Seasons’, and ‘Azure D’Or’. Featuring highly gifted vocalist Annie Haslam, Michael Dunford (acoustic guitars), John Tout (keyboards, vocals), Jon Camp (bass, vocals) and Terry Sullivan (drums, percussion), Novella was issued in 1977 and was the band’s first album to be released on the Warner Bros. label in the UK. Featuring featured the epic ‘Can You Hear Me?’ along with the classic tracks ‘Midas Man’, ‘Touching Once (Is So Hard to Keep)’ and ‘The Sisters’, the album was a top 50 hit album in the USA and assisted in growing the band’s following in Britain. A Song for All Seasons was issued in March 1978, the album featured the song ‘Northern Lights’, a Top Ten hit single in the UK and Europe. The album was also a successful hit in the UK and Japan. The band worked with producer David Hentschel, (who had also produced albums for Genesis) and the material recorded was some of the most carefully crafted work of the band’s career. Flying in the face of the prevailing musical fashions of the time, ‘A Song for All Seasons’ would be the band’s most successful album in Europe and is one of their best-loved works. ‘Azure D’Or’ would be the final Renaissance album to feature their so-called ‘classic’ line- up. Once again the band worked with producer David Hentschel and the record featured excellent material such as ‘Jekyll & Hyde’, ‘Kalynda’ and ‘The Flood at Lyons’. — cherryred.co.uk Track List: Disc 1 - Novella 01 - Can You Hear Me (2019 Remaster) 02 - The Sisters (2019 Remaster) 03 - Midas Man (2019 Remaster) 04 - The Captive Heart (2019 Remaster) 05 - Touching Once (Is So Hard to Keep) (2019 Remaster) Disc 2 - A Song For All Seasons 01 - Opening Out (2019 Remaster) 02 - Day of the Dreamer (2019 Remaster) 03 - Closer Than Yesterday (2019 Remaster) 04 - Kindness (At the End) (2019 Remaster) 05 - Back Home Once Again (2019 Remaster) 06 - She Is Love (2019 Remaster) 07 - Northern Lights 08 - A Song for All Seasons (2019 Remaster) Disc 3 - Azure D'or 01 - Jekyll and Hyde (2022 Remaster) 02 - The Winter Tree (2022 Remaster) 03 - Only Angels Have Wings (2022 Remaster) 04 - Golden Key (2022 Remaster) 05 - Forever Changing (2022 Remaster) 06 - Secret Mission (2022 Remaster) 07 - Kalynda (A Magical Isle) (2022 Remaster) 08 - The Discovery (2022 Remaster) 09 - Friends (2022 Remaster) 10 - The Flood at Lyons (2022 Remaster) 11 - Island of Avalon (2022 Remaster) Media Report: Genre: prog-rock Origin: UK Format: FLAC Format/Info: Free Lossless Audio Codec Bit rate mode: Variable Channel(s): 2 channels Sampling rate: 44.1 KHz Bit depth: 16 bits Compression mode: Lossless Writing library: libFLAC 1.3.0 (UTC 2013-05-26) Note: If you like the music, support the artist
