R.O.T.O.R. (1987), directed by Cullen Blaine, Shout! Factory remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical stereo, RiffTrax riff commentary, and English subtitles. Note : Some classic 80s sci-fi schlock here, kind of a Terminator ripoff mixed with a RoboCop ripoff, but set in Texas, so it's more like RoboCowpoke, amirite? Seriously, it's pretty bad, but all worth it with the RiffTrax, or if you imagine the climax as a gay leather biker vs. butch lesbian bodybuilder showdown, which is surprisingly easy to do. Also, there are some amazing character names, and the poster was just traced wholesale from the Mad Max one. "Stars" Margaret Trigg, Richard Gesswein, Jayne Smith, and Carroll Brandon Baker. Scientist and police captain (rock star, brain surgeon...) BARRETT C. COLDYRON creates a prototype police robot called R.O.T.O.R., because the future is full of CRIME. When his superior pressures him to have the robot ready in sixty days so that the project's financial sponsor, a corrupt senator, can use it in his presidential campaign, COLDYRON resigns, leaving the project to his incompetent assistant, who in turn has a robot assistant built out of tinfoil and HVAC tubing. Of course, the robot activates, escapes, and goes on a murder spree in the name of STOPPING CRIME, so COLDYRON must call in butch lesbian bodybuilder scientist CORINNE R. STEELE to protect an innocent woman whom R.O.T.O.R. has set his sights on. There's also a cop named MOKIE KILLION. Fine as these things go, the cinematography is mostly flat and uninteresting, but the transfer's completely acceptable (16:9, but who gives a shit), and the stereo track sounds fine.
