Description

Textbook in PDF format

This book deals with several aspects of system and circuit design for RF sensor systems implemented in CMOS. The kind of systems in focus are systems where a transducer, sensor or actuator is separated physically by a few inches from a base station providing power and data for the sensor. It is assumed that the power must be provided via an inductive link—a poor transformer between the base station and the sensor—and it is assumed that a bidirectional data link is required. We deal with the problems related to the design of the power and data link between the base station and the transducer. The results described in this book originate from a work on transducer systems for biomedical applications. In biomedical engineering, RF sensor systems come into use for applications such as sensing of nerve signals and electrical stimulation of nerves by means of permanently implanted transponders connected to the natural nerve fibers via electrodes. Also for two-way communication with implanted cardiac pacemakers, the data transmission rely on a wireless RF link, and cochlear implants are another category of biomedical devices using RF sensors
