"Saturday is Tiswas... never again to miss 'cos... Saturday is Tiswas day!"
Tiswas (Today Is Saturday: Watch And Smile) was the anarchic, groundbreaking children's television show that unexpectedly became a cult sensation for adults. Broadcast live on Saturday mornings, tearing up the rule book, its outrageous blend of crazy antics and comedy redefined kids' TV. Viewers tuned in for the infamous cages where children and celebrities were subjected to liberal soakings with water and the trademark Phantom Flan Flinger custard pies. The show's chaos was driven by a superbly engaging, talented ensemble, which during its heyday included charismatic host Chris Tarrant, bubbly Sally James, budding comedic superstar Lenny Henry and the mad humour of John Gorman and Bob Carolgees with Spit the Dog.
Regulars such as Frank Carson, Norman Collier and Sylvester McCoy only amplified the mayhem, cementing Tiswas's reputation as essential, unmissable weekend viewing for the whole family.
This compilation contains all the available full and partial episodes, including some enhanced, some with uncensored cartoons/music and others being made available for the first time.
Where possible the 'Telly Selly Time' adverts have been retained as they go well with this show, being warmly nostalgic, especially for those who remember the era.
Also contains specials The Best of Tiswas (The Best of the Best Bits, More of the Best Bits and Tiswas Comedy Capers) and Tiswas Reunited.
There are many further interview clips which can be easily found on YouTube.
Footage of this legendary show is rare and mostly exists in old VHS recordings from terrestrial TV broadcasts.
Please expect the quality to reflect this.
