The quartet Mount Meander consists of Karlis Auzins/sax, Lucas Leidinger/p,
Tomo Jacobson/b and Thomas Sauerborn, recorded in a November 27, 2017 concert
at the Berlin jazz Units. The seven songs and one song encore are highly
intuitive affairs, with each song spotlighting one of the artists. The opening
“Set” sets the pace with the song adhering to the band’s title, meandering to
Jacobsons bass, while Auzins’ alto sax is dreamy for “Arrival.” Saurborn wails
and flails on “Drum” and the team goes free and loose on “Opus” and the
spontaneous “Encore.” No transcriptions for this one!
