Near Dark (1987), directed by Kathryn Bigelow, hybrid remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical Ultra Stereo, three commentary tracks, and subtitles in thirteen languages. Kathryn Bigelow's directorial debut is an early entry into the surprisingly large vampire western genre, and it's less seen than it should be, which is a shame, because this is good stuff on a low budget. The movie's mostly carried by its villains, with both the late, great Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen giving unforgettable performances, solidly backed by the chamaleonic Jenette Goldstein and Joshua John Miller. The cinematography is also iconic, and there are plenty of memorable lines, and it's the rare vampire movie where the vampires aren't glamorous at all, just sociopathic killers and pathetic losers. Do you like vampires bursting into flame, cowboy hats, shootouts, and bloody shitkicker massacres? This is definitely the film for you. Caleb Colton, a young man in a small Oklahoma town, runs into Mae, a mysterious young woman. They kiss, then she bites his neck and runs off. Soon after, the sun rises, and the sunlight causes Caleb's flesh to smoke and burn. He's picked up by an RV owned by Mae's family of nomad vampires, who are none too happy about Caleb's conversion to their alternative lifestyle, but they agree to let him stay to see if they can trust him. Caleb is unwilling to kill to feed, and Mae has to feed him with her own blood. After a massacre at a local bar, the group is tracked down by law enforcement, leading to Caleb risking himself to save the others, and his acceptance into the group, however, this is short lived, as the weirdo kid vampire sets his sights on Caleb's sister, and Caleb's father gets involved. This is still the same video as my previous encode, with the same problems, mostly it being quite soft and the colors being, ironically, anemic, but it looks decent, the sound is fine, and you get three commentary tracks, although two of them are in German.
