Bassist Anne Mette Iversen leads a lithe quintet of John Ellis/ts-ss, Peter
Dahlgren/tb, Danny Grissett/p and Otis Brown III/dr through nine post bop
originals. The moods are mostly in an easy and relaxed swing mood, ranging from
a Monkish angularity of “Triangular Waves” with Grissett in a playful mood, to
a lazy soulful of “Cluster” featuring Ellis’ beefy tenor sax. Ellis’ soprano
floats on the sublime “Dancing Butterflies” and teams well with Brown’s clever
drum work on “Reworking of a Butterfly” as his brushes support Dahlgren’s
trombone on the rich “Parallel Flying Part I”. The album floats with the charm
of a chrysalis.
