And so the repetitive music, echoing memories or relics of vanished civilizations, tends to penetrate the rhythms of the film without being excessive or intrusive. With extraordinary foresight, Di Gianni predicted this twenty-six years ago, when the first seeds of the deadly disease that would afflict contemporary cinema, namely overabundance and excitement, were appearing on the horizon, making it increasingly incapable of expressing itself in moving thought and aesthetic vision.
