The initial reason for writing this short book was to provide a basic reference on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in School Education (elementary, primary and secondary) for both teachers and pupils, thereby filling an apparent gap on the current list of GIS and geography textbooks. The text also gathers together some of the material under ‘one roof ’, material that might not otherwise reach the intended audience. The starting date for this project goes back many years now but, whilst quite a few exciting developments have taken place since the commissioning of this book by Taylor & Francis, the topics covered by the individual chapters
here are still as relevant to GIS in school education today as they were a few years ago, especially in the UK.
