Asymptotic cones and asymptotic functions: two fundamental
notions for nonlinear and convex analysis.
Not used for a long time with all its power, even in the convex
case, since hidden essentially by the formulas of the recession
cone and the recession functions.
Aim of this talk: emphasize some key properties of asymptotic
functions particulary useful in numerical methods for solving
minimization problems and variational inequalities
