Encoding details: The German BD has better video quality than the Japanese one. Not only is it less bitstarved, but it also corrects the color issues. However, despite its higher quality, it remains bitstarved and suffers from severe banding. Following a rescale (720p Bicubic 0, 0.6), I attempted to fix the banding without smoothing out the details too much. To achieve this, I applied aggressive debanding using various masks to preserve as much detail as possible, and added a layer of fine grain to dither the residual banding without altering the series’ original aesthetic.
