Nowadays, the biomedical domain is heavily dependent on technology. Connectivity is a much sought after trait in biomedical devices. Telemedicine is an age-old idea but it has got momentum due to the introduction of Internet of Things (IoT). The effect of IoT is ubiquitous. The combination of IoT with the biomedical domain has created an entirely new area of research called IoMT (Internet of Medical Things). It is a niche area of research. Therefore, the idea behind this book is to bring forward the latest research happening in this multi disciplinary field of biomedical science and IoT. The intervention of IoT in the biomedical field has led to the development of numerous medical devices. Therefore, the aim of this book is to assess the impact and effect of IoT in the biomedical and telemedicine domain. This book features diverse research in the field of IoMT. It can act as a knowledge sharing resource for academicians, professionals and even beginners to get an idea about this area. The primary subject of this edited book is healthcare and medicine. It is a crucial area of research and it has a very positive affect on the quality of human life. It can certainly be called one of the most important areas of research given the present scenario.
Telemedicine is the most prominent area where a combination of IoT and biomedicine is significant. Telemedicine, as the name suggests, deals with treatment even when doctor and patients are far away from each other. It is helpful for remote areas where healthcare facilities are scarce. In telemedicine, patient consultation, data sharing, diagnosis, management, etc, are done through various electronics devices over a communication network. The opportunities in telemedicine are endless and it is a boon for patients. Introduction of remote surgeries based on robotics has phenomenal potential. There will be no need of the physical presence of a surgeon. Surgeons with a certain set of skills can operate on their patient from any part of the world. What felt impossible previously has become a reality with the introduction of technologies like IoT.
