Note : Is it Jaws, but with an alligator in Africa? Yes, it's Jaws but with an alligator in Africa. There's also some ridiculously obvious miniature work. Sergio Martino didn't really know what to do towards the end of the 70s, I think, and it shows, but this isn't without its charms, featuring as it does a bunch of stupid, arrogant white people angering an alligator god and getting munched up, well, the ones who aren't speared to death by the natives, anyway. Features Barbara Bach, Claudio Cassinelli, Mel Ferrer, Richard Johnson, and our old friend Bobby Rhodes in a small role.
During the opening of a new tourist resort in Africa, the sleazy developer's visitors include a photographer, a bunch of models, and the developer's assistant, who catches the photographer's eye. When people start disappearing from the "let's have fun with the ethnics" festivities, the photographer suspects the natives, but no one believes him, until it turns out the problem is actually a river god in the form of a giant alligator, who's worshipped by the natives, and now the white people have two problems. The natives seem definitely more menacing and efficient at killing people than the stiff plastic alligator, but unfortunately, we don't get much gore or even any nudity.
A completely competent 4k remaster of material that probably never looked amazing, but color and contrast is fine, grain is maybe a bit too present, but not overwhelming, and there's enough detail to see that the miniatures are very, very fake. Mono tracks both sound fine.
