This book Solid State Physics is an introductory text for graduate and post-graduate stu dents in physics, material science and engineering. The first edition of this book was published in the year 2013, while the second edition appeared in 2015.
In the present edition, some new topics are introduced, while some of the existing topics like phonons, Drude–Lorentz model, Fermi levels, electrons, holes, etc. are modified. The segment on band theory has been revised and expanded by the addition of a nearly free electron model and tight-binding approximation. The chapter on semiconductors has been revised, and subjects of scattering, doping and defects in semiconductors are included. Some interesting features of high-temperature superconductors are also incorporated in Chap. 14. A text dealing with the density of states, Normal and Umklapp processes, Boltzmann equation and electrical conductivity also forms a part of this edition.
