To install and then use this vintage application on Windows 10 or Windows 11 set the application compatibility to "Windows XP" emulation.

First unzip the software archive that contains the readme file.

Right click on the setup.exe
Choose Properties
Choose the compatibility tab
Select compatibility mode "Windows XP"

After installation go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Merriam-Webster"
Right click on the Merriam-Webster.exe
Choose Properties
Choose the Compatibility tab
Select compatibility mode "Windows XP"
