Description

Textbook in PDF format

The Guidebook for Power Line Technicians 3rd edition is an updated comprehensive resource dealing with managing risk in power line work. Managing risk is incorporated in description of work methods and the details of working in an electrical environment. Electrical utilities have an abundance of manuals and reference material for the people who work on power lines. Most of the information supplied by the utility or employer involves work procedures, rules, and regulations
and widely scattered electrical reference material. This book concentrates on essential immediate “must know” topics that a power line technician is required to understand to work effectively and minimize risk in an electrical. It is expected that a power line technician will review specific work procedures provided by the utility or contractor.
The Guidebook for Power Line Technicians can be used as both a training manual and a reference guide. Used as a training manual, it is important that the content is studied chronologically so that the concepts presented in later chapters is fully understood. When training, the information in the book needs to be backed up with “in the field” training. Reference is made to equipment and material with the assumption that the reader knows or will be shown what they look like.
The early chapters are intended for a person entering electrical-utility work. Later chapters assume some experience as a power line worker. Much of the book content is valuable for arborists, ground workers, and line truck drivers.
