Argent was a British rock band that performed a mixture of rock, pop, and progressive rock.
Argent is a combination of talents - keyboard wizard Rod Argent (The Zombies) and Russ Ballard (writer of Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone" and "I Surrender"), along with other more than capable band members like the late, great bassist Jim Rodford and drummer Bob Henritt, both of whom went on to join The Kinks, deserve a much wider audience. Rod Argent also co-wrote many of the songs on Argent with his former Zombie bandmate Chris White, so along with Ballard, the songwriting on this collection really does have an exceptionally high pedigree. Hopefully, this 2-CD collection will earn a few more new fans who will appreciate it, as it's chock-full of memorable songs, including the big hits "Hold Your Head Up," "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You" (also a huge hit for Kiss), "Liar," which was later covered by Americans Three Dog Night and and many others that occupy a middle ground between rock and prog. Argent's songs possess incredible melody, and since many of Argent's albums are currently unavailable, this is a great opportunity to hear some excellent songs that have been hard to find for quite some time
