Description
Video/audio: JP SDBD Remux
Subtitles: Half-Baked (01-10), Tamaya (11-50)
Chapters: Tamaya (01-50)
MediaInfo
This is a release I threw together for my own viewing. You can think of it as “quarter-baked”, an unofficial continuation of the Half-Baked release. As such, the effort put in is even lower, but unfortunately, it is the best release currently available. The video is much better than Tamaya and the worst of the subtitle issues have been fixed.
The only available subtitles for this are poor. Three different groups worked on this over the course of 7 years (AC, A.C.A, Project Kitteh). Tamaya then OCR’d them and compiled them together. I’ve stuck to fixing only the most egregious of issues (names, nonsensical sentences, misspellings, OCR issues, missing signs, two episodes with subs entirely out of sync, misc. consistency fixes).
Styles and OP lines were borrowed from Half-Baked. Did not resync ED due to changing offsets.
At 708x508, Half-Baked was a bit overcropped, I stuck to a container crop of 708x528. Aspect ratio is still set to a naive 4:3.
The BD is a significant improvement in video quality over the DVD.
DVD (Tamaya) vs BD (Questionable) comparison (scaled up with ArtCNN)
I highly recommend you watch this using mpv and ArtCNN with the following settings:
[nadja]
profile-cond=p.path:lower():match("nadja")
profile-restore=copy
hwdec=no # doesn't play nicely with ivtc, at least on AMD
vf="dejudder,fps=30000/1001,fieldmatch=cthresh=12,bwdif=mode=0:deint=interlaced,decimate"
glsl-shader="~~/shaders/ArtCNN_C4F32.glsl"
sub-fix-timing=yes
This will ensure proper IVTC (as much as is possible to automate; it will avoid awful combing artifacts and judder from naive deinterlacing), apply higher quality scaling, and improve the timing somewhat by removing flashing gaps.
