Description
Thank you downloading our encode!
We spent a lot of effort into filtering and encoding. We fixed some issues with subtitles, and we carefully restyled them specifically to match the theme of this show.
This should be the best encode available for this anime.
Hope you enjoy!
Excited!
This is a high effort filtering and encoding for Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kiroku.

This anime is quite harsh and has a lot of issues.
For filtering, we first use a MVTools based processing focusing on two issues: stablising the heavy grain in the source and stabilising the flickering lineart in panning scenes. In order to fix the flickering and also maximise encoder detail retention, we choose MotionMode.COHERENCE for caculating MVs. For blocks with no valid MVs, we use a tuned DFTTest + bm3d to denoise. At last, to prevent removing too much noise in flashback scenes, we protect the processing with a frame mask made from MVTools.mask and std.PlaneStats.
This anime has fairly strong aliasing and halo, and even chroma halo, but unfortunately it’s not descalable.
We use EEDI2 via vsTAAmbk.TAAmbk and a gaussian based method via fmtc.resample to AA.
For dehalo, on luma, we use vsdehalo.dehalo_alpha to dehalo, protected by mask created via vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask and a bilateral based protection. On chroma, we perform a light dehalo using vsdehalo.edge_cleaner, protected by mask created via vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask.
For encoding, we use latest Mar 28 version of 5fish/SVT-AV1-PSY. We use --lineart-psy-bias 3 --texture-psy-bias 4 as a base, while setting --noise-psy-bias 2 --texture-ac-bias 3.0 --texture-energy-bias 1.10, making it halfway to --texture-psy-bias 5. For --crf, we use --crf 25.85 for this encode, and we also set --high-quality-encode-psy-bias 1. At last, to minimise unpleasant ringing caused by the remaining noise after filtering, we use --psy-bias-sharpness-rounding 52.
We add a decently coarse layer of Simplex noise via a custom photon noise table to the encode.
Thanks to all the people creating the tools, plugins and vsfunc’s that make this possible, and thanks to everyone in the community for teaching me, pointing out issues, and giving me advice.
