Aura: Koga Maryuin’s Last War
Video: BD Encode 1080p HEVC by PingWer74
Audio: FLAC 2.0 Japanese - FLAC 2.0 English
Sub: Italian (WOR) - English Dialogue (Watashi) - English Signs and Songs (Watashi) - English Dialogue (USBD)
Encoding Details
I don’t know why I have this recent obsession with encoding such awful BDs… In any case, this source had massive banding and noise issues. I tried to somehow fix everything without nuking too many details, but it really called for creating manual masks, which went beyond the effort I was willing to put into this movie.
To be exact, this was the pipeline:
rescale, denoise, deband, deband, regrain (noise)
The base source was particularly noisy, and I wasn’t sure how much of it was actually noise added by the studio versus noise resulting from compression, so I added a certain amount of noise regardless, partly because it was needed to cover up the remaining banding.
Some details have been lost, and there isn’t much we can do about it (apart from manual masking)
Comparison
As for the comp, I did look at several of the available encode, but they are all worse than the BD itself, so I haven’t included them, with the exception of the old “seadex” best.
For any questions you can find me on JET discord server or AV1 Weeb Edition @PingWer74
